Vote for A Chance for Bliss

Please help A Chance for Bliss win this contest as they help very old horses, dogs, etc to have a loving place to live out their lives and they can use the money as feeding and caring for these animals is expensive as we all know. As they are a sanctuary only they depend upon donations so winning this Grant would help them tremendously.

Place your vote here for this wonderful animal sanctuary to receive a $50k grant from Pepsi. Remember once you sign-in, you need to click on the "vote for thisidea" button again or your vote won't get counted.

Adoption process

Adoptions are by application only!

You can't adopt via phone or via email saying you want a dog.

You have to put in an application as the first step to adoption.

The Adoption Process is:

1. You fill out and email/fax app to me. If there is anything that you think I need to know that I have not asked you or you have certain requirements or traits you are looking for in a dog, please put it in the application.

2. I check your references.

3. If those pass, then I arrange a home visit.

4. If that passes, then you can adopt a dog from the ones that are available at that time.

PLEASE REMEMBER: A dog that you may be interested in may have had a number of applications recieved on him that were processed before yours, so please be willing to adopt another dog that suits your needs. While pictures are nice to see, looks are not everything. Age should not be a factor either. What you need to look at is Personality, activity levels, and behaviors which will help determine the best dog for you.

If you are interested in adopting ANY DOG ON MY PAGE or wish to get on our list of approved homes for future adoption, please DOWNLOAD an application, complete, sign and fax it to:

(775) 417-5189

Adoption Donations

Based on the dog's age or medical condition, a sliding scale may be used, but the standard adoption donation requested is:

$275.00 for dogs over 10 months of age and

$400 for puppies 9 months and under.

PER the IRS Adoption donations are not tax deductible because you are getting a dog, but ANY AMOUNT OVER THE REQUESTED ADOPTION DONATION is considered a TAX DEDUCTABLE donation.

ALL ADOPTION DONATIONS ARE DONATIONS AND ARE NOT REFUNDABLE!

Shipment/Transport

ABTR will adopt and ship our dogs to approved adopters at the NEW adopter's expense ANYWHERE in the US and can ship to Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Vancouver and Edmonton in Canada. Shipping includes Airfare, Crate and health Certificate for $300 for a dog with crate which together weigh less than 50 lbs. If both dog and crate together weigh more than 50 lbs, a higher airfare and crate fee applies. Transportation fees are in addition to the adoption donation and not part of the adoption donation.

Seniors for Seniors program

IF you are over 65 years old and interested in an 8 year old or older dog, please ask about our Seniors for Seniors program. Seniors generally find that our senior dogs still have a lot of life and love left in them. Our senior dogs are wonderful companions for someone who doesn't want a bouncing off the ceiling, chewing, wild youngster to have to deal with. Senior dogs know when to cuddle and are great companions. Please consider a senior dog for your next companion.

Order of handling applications

I process the apps in the order that I receive them, WHEN I have time between vetting, fetching dogs, home visits, my life, etc. Sometimes it is a couple of weeks before I start processing your application due to the busyness of my schedule. IF you get another dog in the meantime, please have the courtesy to send me an email and let me know.

Choosing a dog

ATTENTION: When you are approved is when you get to choose a dog from the ones that are currently available that I think will suit your needs, IF you are ready to adopt at that time !!! IF YOU ARE NOT READY to adopt at the time you are approved, then I will NOT hold a particular dog for you as I need to get these dogs out of here and not have them holding spaces that another dog needs for 2 or more weeks waiting on someone to get back from vacation, etc. Once you are ready to adopt after you are approved is when you can choose a dog from the ones available. If I only had one or 2 dogs in it would not matter, but there are some weeks I get up to 8 new dogs into rescue and I need the space. Thank you for your understanding.

Dog Availability

Other dogs MAY BE available that may not be listed yet as I don't always have time to update the page daily. Some of these dogs above may have adoptions pending or have been adopted out as I don't always have time to update daily. BE PREPARED TO ACCEPT A DIFFERENT BT THAN THE ONE YOU APPLY FOR if the dog does not fit into the family dynamics or has been already adopted by someone approved before you. We do work the apps in the order we get them. Please fill out an application if you are interested in adopting a BT. Thank you!

No trial basis

For local adopters, we do NOT let you take dogs on a trial basis, either you want to adopt a particular dog or you do not want to adopt a dog. These dogs have been through enough upheaval in their lives, moving them into a new home for a few days or weeks and then back to rescue would traumatize them even more. So, please do not ask me about taking the dogs on a trial basis as the answer is NO. Be sure you want to adopt a dog before you adopt it. We are always willing to take a dog back that doesn't work out, but we try to find the right fit the first time. I am looking for homes who will consider these dogs part of the family, not just dogs to try out and return if they are not perfect. No dog is perfect, whether it is rescued or not.

Pictures

PLEASE NOTE: If the pictures are just a square with an X in it like this , then it means the picture hasn't been taken yet but will follow soon.

Adoption pending

PLEASE NOTE: Adoption pending means that ABTR is just waiting on the adoption fee or transport for the dog to go to their new home.

CHOOSE ONE RESCUE TO WORK WITH!

Please do not apply with every Texas rescue, just apply with the one that has the dog you want to adopt. Often we are working the same applications and that wastes our time when we could be working different apps and re-home more dogs. Thank you for your understanding!!!

Questions about a specific dog

IF you have specific questions about a certain dog that are not answered on the website, please feel free to email them to me, otherwise all the information that I have about the dog is right here on this site.

We recommend anyone adopting a dog from us to use a crate to prevent any damage to your home or belongings due to separation anxiety that may not manifest itself here.

We further recommend that you take the dog to OBEDIENCE classes to help teach your dog to become a good member of your family and to help you bond together.

Kids, Cats and other dogs

IMPORTANT

At this time, most of our dogs are not kid tested as they have come from shelters or picked up as strays. Occasionally, we get a dog that is from a family environmentand in that case, it will say on the website thisdog is good with kids. If you have kids and are an approved adopter we will do our best to match a dog with your family that will be compatible with children. However, we can not guarantee a dog to be kid friendly as we do not have many foster homes with children.

After you are an approved adopter we can cat test a dog you may be interested in. The cat testing takes time of which I have a limited supply so cat testing will only be performed after you are approved to adopt. Thank you for your understanding in his matter.
