URGENT NEED!

ABTR Vanilla Rilla puppy thrown from car

American Boston Terrier Rescue has taken custody of a 7 week old Boston Terrier puppy who was seen being thrown from a car into a ditch out in the country by a gentleman who was humane enough to stop to pick up the puppy and take it to the closest animal shelter. We have named this little girl Vanilla Rilla. Her right eye is injured and might need surgery to save it or it might need to be removed. She needs our help.

Won't you please consider pledging just $10 to help this mistreated puppy get well? Our experience with eye injuries over the years give us hope that we can help to save this baby's eye. Her vet bill could easily run into the hundreds. As always, ABTR is committed to doing all we can for her. As you know, our resources have been stretched enormously over the past several years with the numbers of Bostons needing our help. Please help us to give this puppy the chance she deserves. Please donate to help us ensure that we can help this little girl and other deserving pups. At this time, we do not know how much the vetting will run. We are grateful for each and every contribution. Any funds collected in excess of Nilla's vetting will be used to help other dogs in our rescue. Thank you.

ABTR is a 501c3 charitable organization and every penny you donate is tax-deductible.

VANILLA RILLA PHOTOS AND STORY!

11-16-11 -

I got a phone call from with the Cedar Creek Humane Society. Asked me if I would take a 7 week old puppy that had been thrown out of a car into the bar ditch and the puppy had a injured eye and might lose it. What can I say? I am a sucker for poor babies like this. I told her of course I would. This babies story is a man was driving down a country road behind another car. He saw someone throw this puppy out the window into a ditch where it hit a tree. He stopped to see if it was alive and luckily it was. So he took it to Cedar Creek, where they gave her pain meds and called me. The eye looks really nasty and has lots of swelling and exudate coming out of it. I got her to the vet first thing. Dr. Cindy says she is hoping that it is just a really bad scratch that will heal without her having to take the eyeball out. So we are putting meds in many times a day to help kill any infection that might come up, keep it lubricated and encourage the eye to heal up. We will bring her back in for an exam in 2 to 3 weeks. While at the vet Nilla got her 1st set of puppy shots to get her immunity started. Nilla's left eye is blue. I think her right eye is too, but I could be wrong. I also think she is possibly deaf and guessing that migh be why someone threw her out the window in the country. Noises do not startle her, but then it could be that she is a 7 week old puppy and not real coordinated or understanding of her surroundings. We shall see over time. Nilla had lots of round worms and has been wormed to get rid of them. She eats and poops good like all puppies. Right now we are on a wait and see with her on her eye. I do not know when she will be available for adoption. When she is available for adoption, Nilla will only be adopted to someone with Boston Terrier Experience as she is a very BUSY puppy even with her eyeball hurting her. Please pray that her eye will heal and we don't have to take it out. We sure appreciat your prayers on her behalf. hugs, Wanda

1st part of UPDATE 12 - 17 -11 - Sorry I have been really busy and just now having time to update the website. I Took her back to Dr. Cindy for exam on the 6th. She was spayed and we had her dewclaws removed as she uses her legs to rub her face/eyes. So those jokers were taken off while she was sleeping getting spayed. That way she would not rub her eyes and cause any more damage to them from the dewclaws as they were right in the right place on her arm to scratch the hell out of her eye.

Good news is the eye has been healing well, thanks to my keeping the legs wrapped in bangages over the dewclaws so she couldn't cause any self inflicted damage. Dr. Cindy didn't think the eye will have to come out. It will just look funny. We were putting drops in several times daily. Nilla objects to the eye drops as she is a typical I can't hold still Boston puppy. She doesn't realize that she isn't quite normal. She is full of spit and vinegar and ready to go go go!!

Part 2 UPDATE 12 - 17 -11 - I have really good news. Previous adopters of mine Paula and Lynn (adopted Bertie now known as Hondo) from Wichita Falls saw Nilla and fell in love. They were at the limit for their city so they went and got a special permit to be allowed to adopt Nilla so they would continue to be law abiding citizens.

When I met Paula and Steve to hand Nilla off to them it was raining and as we talked and Steve got her in his lap, I knew that was where she was gonna be pretty much from now on. You could just tell. He was just oohing and ahhing and cuddling and spoiling her. I don't know if Paula is gonna get a pet in edgewise.

So... Nilla now has a home with 5 brother and Sisters to play with. She thinks that is mighty fine, although they may not agree. I am very pleased that Nilla has gone to a home that has previous Boston puppy experience as she is going to be a challenge both with her eye and being deaf. Paula and Steve already have a dog trainer working with them to teach them and Nilla how to communicate with each other. These folks even have a doggie walker that comes during the day to walk and love on the dogs while they are at work. Nilla has hit the jackpot.

Here is just one of the emails that I have gotten from the new parents, QUOTE: This is Evie aka Vanilla Rilla. We adopted her and she is a sweet little girl. She had a rough start in life but now is enjoying her forever home. She is much loved and is "Daddy's little girl" She has two speeds- zoom and blur and sleep. Her deafness or blindness in one eye doesn't stop her. Her brothers and sister are getting to know her. They think she is a "puppy pest". We go today for her first puppy class. We found a trainer willing to help us. Here we go for the adventure.
Paula and Steve

So thankfully, this story has a happy ending for a little girl tossed out of a car like garbage to a loving home with people willing to go the extra mile to communicate with her and care for her special needs. AS you can see in the below photos, Evie aka Nilla is growing and full of it. Paula was complaining she couldn't get any good pix cause Evie was always on the move. Yep, I coulda told you that. She is a Boston puppy and they only stop to sleep. SO A BIG Thank you to Paula and Steve for adopting a special needs little girl.

As always, we at ABTR appreciate your continued support of our rescue efforts. Without your generosity and support, we could not have helped as many dogs as we have over the years. :) Thank you so very much. Wanda
