Lucky Charm's Story

Male
12.5 lbs.
8 to 10 months old
from Marshall
I don't know if he is Black or Brindle yet

He looks so bad it hurts my heart so very much. Poor baby. Right now he is not feeling good at all so I can't tell you what his personality is like. He is eating good, but sleeping a lot like the mange babies always do. It will be several months and lots of treatments before he gets better. We got him the 1st of December. So maybe by end of Feb or March he might be ready to go to a new home. He was found in Marshall. Can you imagine someone letting this baby get in this bad a shape? Poor little guy. Sometimes I really don't like people much when I see dogs in this shape.

One good thing is he was heartworm negative so that is a plus for him.

Update: 2/07/08 Lucky Charms is one of the harder cases we have gotten. I am still working with him. As soon as I get one thing cleared up something else flairs up and I have to deal with that. He is not adoptable at this time and I don't know when or if ever he will be adoptable.  He has demodex and we can't get that cleared up cause his system has been stressed over and over again with other stuff. The boy has a really poor immune system.

He has had pneumonia, we think he has IBD as we worked through wormers,  doses of Albon and metrocondolozole etc trying to clear up his poops and get them from liquid to solid. We have him on Duck and potato dog food and  a digestive enzyme and that seems to be doing the trick right now as he is having good poops finally. But still can't get any weight on him. :(

Right now he has a cough and we are giving him meds for that.  He is on ivermectin for the demodex so we have been constantly treating him for the demo through all this other stuff, but the hair is very slow about coming back he is still bald bald bald. I think I can feel some very short bristles, but... it could be wishful thinking on my part too as he sure don't look like he has any hair. I really feel for this boy cause he is a very sweet loving boy who loves attention.

Update: 3/07/08 Lucky Charms is one of the harder cases we have gotten. I am still working with him. As soon as I get one thing cleared up something else flairs up and I have to deal with that issue. He is not adoptable and I don't know when if ever he will be adoptable. He has demodex and we have had problems getting that cleared up cause his system has been stressed over and over again. He still does not feel well.

He has had pneumonia, which we got him over. We think he has IBD or other type of colitis issues as we slowly worked through several wormers, doses of Albon and metrocondolozole etc trying to clear up his poops if whipworms or a bacteria were the source of his colitis and get the poops from liquid to solid. We have him on Duck and potato dog food and that seems to be doing the trick right now as he is having good poops finally. Although they are dark colored versus the lighter color. But so much better than liquid.

But I still can't get any weight on him. :( He is a walking skeleton which is killing me. He eats, but doesn't gain any weight and I can't put a lot of fattening stuff in his food or he will be pooping liquid again> :( It is very frustrating to me as it hurts me for them to be so skinny.

Right now he has a cough and we are giving him meds for that. He is on ivermectin for the demodex from the very beginning. We have been constantly treating him for the demo through all this other stuff. The hair is very slow about coming back he is still bald Looking to me. I think I can feel some bristles, but... it could be wishful thinking on my part too. But I am glad that his skin is looking much better and the awful bleeding if you even look at him sores are gone. If I can just get some weight on him and get him well, I would be a happy camper.

He is a very precious little guy. Lucky is very mild mannered and wants to please. He has learned to go to this crate when I tell him crate as I have to keep him separate so he can eat his special food and not get into the other dogs food. He is fine with the other dogs when I let him run with them where he can't eat their food. He likes to cuddle in a bed next to the heater and he loves to get pets and attention. This boy will need someone who is willing to love him even though he is special and has a weak immune system. Lucky Charms is a great dog and if he is ever ready for adoption, I believe with someone willing to take on the challenge and love him, he will fill a special place in your heart.
