URGENT NEED!
HOBBLE GOBBLE - Boston hit by Car
9 - 14 - 10
Here is Hobbie's story according to Jim:
Wanda,
I went ahead and pulled the E-vet dog last night, since their hours are
5:00pm to 8:00am only. This is such a sweet, sad little girlie.
This dog was brought in by a "good samaritan" who had tried to
catch her, but wasn't able to until after the accident occurred (whatever it
was - we're assuming a car). This person brought her in, but couldn't afford
any vet fees, so the vet didn't do much. They did say they gave her
pain pills (not sure what type) and the steroid to see if the leg would get
better, and tried very hard to locate the owner, since there are 2 microchips
in her. The one microchip they researched showed she had been AKC papered and sold from a Puppyland
in Missouri (Misery?), so definitely a puppymill pooch. The other microchip
was to a woman with a common Hispanic name, but all the numbers were
disconnected, so she will have to be re-certified with the chip manufacturer.
She is about 3 years old. She is very sweet and quite a cutie, though I believe her front right leg
will have to be amputated - it is just hanging limp from her shoulder joint
(or whatever that is called). Her right front paw is just hanging as
dead weight. It obviously gives her no pain, but there is
just no feeling in the bottom part. She is doing real well at just hopping
around on the other 3. They claimed they gave her steroids to see if
that would start some healing, but no evidence it did any good.
She has a little boo-boo on her head and the worst case of dying
rears since Beau! Beside all this, she is a cute and loving dog.
Hopefully there are no medical surprises beyond what we already
know of her.
I was warned that she is extremely afraid of other dogs, but she was
just fine with my 6, who did sniff her, but didn't get themselves or her
excited.
She has dying rears to beat the band. They gave me some Ectosorb (sp?)
but it hasn't appeared to help. They were feeding her ID, but that has corn
in it, so now she is on Blue Buffalo Wilderness canned from me with no grain,
just in case that is what's bothering her digestive tract.
Gave her a bath this morning since she was dirty to begin with and had
lots of poop on her from overnight (thankfully I crated her). She does NOT
appear to be housetrained, and peed and pooped indoors, though that
was right after I got her home. This morning I took her out and she went
right for some plantings and peed in them, so her natural inclination is to
go outdoors if given that option.
They gave me no paperwork, so we have to assume she needs all shots
and a spay, and then I guess some xrays for the leg, and then whatever
action needs to be taken for that.
I am so hoping that Hobble can regain at least limited use of her leg
instead of losing it, though I know that's a longshot. Poor thing has
been through so much already, but at least she's got a good attitude
and a lot of caring folks rooting for her.
Here are some photos, though not the best work I've done.
She deserves a much better album to show her off. News as it occurs,
Jim
Hobble Gobble!
9 - 15 - 10 Just a quick note as I am working full time at Dr. Cindy's since Wray was shot and my time is extremely limited. Yesterday one of my volunteers Jim's vet told him about a Boston hit by a car that an E VET down in Dallas was looking for someone to take. Jim knows that we are pretty full and turning dogs down so he contacts me about her.
YOU KNOW ME... DOG HIT BY CAR NEEDS HELP! So I told him we would most definately take her.
OK Jim goes and gets her and drives her up to me at Dr. Cindy's. Seems the e vet just gave this dog prednisone for a week to see if the leg would have nerve damage or something. NO XRAYS!!! ARRRGGHHHH!!!! We get no paperwork with her showing what she has had done to her while at the Evet. I don't know why that doggone evet didn't contact us to take her sooner. Poor girl has probably been in pain this whole time. Arrggghhhh!!!
I got Dr. Cindy to look at it today and Hobble Gobble as we are calling her is on pain meds now as she is bruised up and sore from being hit by the car. Dr. Cindy says it looks to her like brachial nerve damage and that means that it will probably have to come off. I have her scheduled for surgery for tomorrow. The last arm amputation we did for a dog hit by car at another vet was about $1200. I know it won't be quite that much at Dr. Cindy's, but... it has been a long time since we had one done with her and I know it is still gonna be a big bill.
My vent is why the heck didn't the e vet try and find a rescue sooner? And to send us no paperwork so I dont' know if they did or didn't do anything to help her other than the pred my volunteer was told they gave her. Why didn't they send us something so we would know what was or wasn't done for her? Arrrrgghhhh!!!
URGENT NEED!
ABTR Hobble Gobble - Vet Bill
Won't you please consider pledging just $10 to help this sweet little girl get well? ABTR is committed to doing all we can for her, but our resources have been stretched extremely thin over the past few years and we really need some help to give thus girl the chance she deserves. From previous experience with an arm amputation we know the surgical vet bill could easily run up to $1200 if she needs the arm amputaion surgery on top of the expenses for having her treated for heartworms and the normal vetting we do for our dogs such as spay, shots, worming, etc. Please donate to help us ensure that we can help thus very deserving Boston. With the heartworm treatment alone, her vetting will be more than we can collect in an adoption donation for her, so we're grateful for each and every contribution. Thank you.
ABTR is a 501c3 charitable organization and every penny you donate is tax-deductible.

Hey guys!!!
Your prayers musta worked cause DR. Cindy decided to check Hobbie's arm out again today before she put her under for surgery and she got some pain response along the inside of her leg when she was pinching along her arm that she didn't get yesterday. Good news is that she is not hurting as she pinched her several places with no response so her arm is numb and not hurting her. Dr. Cindy said that she may possibly regain more response in the next week. So she asked me if I wanted to go ahead with surgery to remove her arm which we could not grow back after we took it off or since she is not in any pain in the arm to give her some time to see if the nerves rebound from the injury and she gets some limited movement in her arm so she is not dragging her foot and rubbing the top of it raw. There are NO open wounds on her leg like there was with our boy George Clooney.
Well you know me, if she is not in pain, then I would rather her have an arm if possible. Plus the front arm being missing is harder on a dog than the back leg. So we will give her some pain meds in case she is still hurting elsewhere and then check her again next week. IF she doesn't give more response than she did today, we will amputate the arm, but if she does then we will continue, limited exercise and the anti-inflamtory meds.
We are VERY LUCKY that there are no broken bones, ripped open skin or shredded muscles so we can give her time to see if the arm will regain any mobility so she can use it and not lose the arm.
Bad news is that Hobbie has heartworms on top of this so has to be treated for that after we spay and possible arm surgery on her. Poor baby girl.
But... please keep those prayers coming cause maybe just maybe God will listen and this beautiful little girl can regain some use of her arm. Thank you all for being my sounding board when I was just about too tired to think and just so upset with that E vet and no paperwork to know what had been done for her.

HI all,
Just a quick update before I leave for work. So far, I can't see any improvement as far as the arm goes.
Hobbie was spayed yesterday! We did not do anything to the arm. Dr. Cindy and I are hoping she will regain some use in it or the muscles will shrink enough to keep it off the ground. We are continuing the anti-inflamatorys.
I just hate to cut her arm off, as I believed that if nothing else it would give her something to help with her balance so she could rest it on the ground a bit if the muscles will shrink and it will draw up so she is not dragging it like she is now. (I have a sock on it so she don't make it raw. ) She doesn't have any open wounds so it is not imperative that it come off asap like some of the other hit by car dogs who had muscles, skin and bone showing. Dr. Cindy says she will have to take it up pretty high so she doesn't use it as a crutch as there would be nothing but skin between the bone and the ground so that would not be a good idea. (what can I say, my ideas are not always the most well thought out?)
I am gonna start her heartworm treatment next week. If we decide to take the arm off it will be in a couple of months. I just want to give her all the time that I can before I make the decision to remove that arm. It is not like I haven't held dogs for other conditions for a few months before they are ready for adoption.
So please every keep praying that Hobbie's brachial nerves grow back or whatever they need to do to regain communication with the rest of her arm so she can use it or that her muscles shrink enough to where the arm doesn't drag on the ground all the time, so I don't have to take it off in the future.
Thank you for all your prayers for this sweet baby girl. I still haven't got her webpage done, but plan on doing that this weekend. I had a transport to the northeast this week on top of working and I am behind as can be.

I just thought I would let you know that Hobble Gobble started her heartworm treatment on Monday. Hobbie is taking the treatment well and hasn't gone off her food. She is still interested in her surroundings and acting normal, so I am hoping she has a very light case of them and there won't be any complications.
Hobbie was real good at the vets and didn't fuss too much. She pottied when I took her out in the morning, at lunch and before I left for the day. She was happy for love and attention. This is a VERY sweet girl.
I still can't see any improvement on the leg, but... I am still hoping. It will be 2 months before I can do anything to her as far as surgery on the leg due to the heartworm treatment. So I am hoping that with some more time that she will get some more nerve growth/repair or at least the muscles will shrink so she can at least not drag it on the ground. I REALLY don't want to cut off her leg. But the good thing is that she is not in any pain from it due to the nerve damage and there is no broken skin or bone in there.
I know I was late getting her webpage done, but... I have had so many other things going on with working at a real job for a change as well as all the rescue stuff, I just haven't got to it until now. I picked up a new boy yesterday, got 4 incoming from Louisiana tomorrow and 2 from Austin on Monday. It is raining Bostons. Arrrrggghhh!
Please keep your prayers and good thoughts coming Hobbie's way so that maybe a miracle will happen. She is such a beautiful dog and has a great personality. She deserves to have something good happen to her. I appreciate all you do for ABTR. Thank you!!!
As always, ABTR appreciates your continued support of our rescue efforts. Without your
generosity and support, we could not have helped as many dogs as we have over the years. :) Thank
you so very much.
