URGENT NEED!

CHRISTMAS CHEER - Emergency Ruptured eye/Mange/Neglect Puppy
Surgical Care - Vet Bill

11 - 24 - 09 PM Ginger from Fort Worth called me to come and pick up a poor little owner surrender puppy today. Seems the parents breed Bostons. They took this one cause he was in sad shape and then decided they didn't want to deal with him. So what do they do? Take him to the shelter, of course. They told the shelter that they had dipped him and were caring for him. Caring for him??? UMMM I believe that like I believe i am a supermodel. NOT!!! Just look at this baby!!! For him to get in this sad a shape this young, no one did ANYTHING for him even before he was born. ARRRGGHHH!!!

Dr. Cindy says he is only about 8 weeks old and she has never seen one this young with demodex as bad as this one has it. If those people who Owner Surrendered him were taking care of this puppy and dipped him like they said they did, he wouldn't be in this bad a shape. His skin is sloughing off in chunks. Dr. Cindy says he is gonna look a lot worse before he looks better if he survives. As you can see in the pix where a fairly thick layer of the skin with the hair on it is peeling up like a sunburn does.

He has demodex bad as you can see. Thank God, there were no sarcoptic mites showing on the scrape. I held him and never got the itchies other than in my mind like I do when they have fleas and ticks. There were no bumps on the arms like sarcopts does to me. He has a very bad case of demodex mites showing up on the scrape.

He is too little for me to give him ivermectin orally as he only weighs 1.7 lbs, so I have to bathe him and dip him with lyme sulpher dip once a week and blot his little face with a cotton ball soaked in the dip to keep it out of his eyes. I am to put Vaseline or his medicine ointment in his eyes before doing that and it will help keep the dip out of his eyes if it runs and he has it all over his sweet little head. Poor lil guy.

Dr. Cindy says Christmas's little eye is ruptured in the middle. She says his eye fluids have already oozed out and I am to put the oinment in there regularly. He is in too bad a shape right now for us to do surgery on his little eye. The ointment will help keep it from hurting too bad.

He has wormy belly and is very scrawny as you can see in the pix if you look close at his arms and his back legs. His little hips and spine are sticking out too. Looks like one of those children they show on the TV that have the huge belly and the bones everywhere else.

Dr. Cindy gave me some antibiotics to give to him too so we are medicating him as much as we can to deal with his issues. As soon as we get him in good enough shape, we will deal with the eye, but gotta get him better. She didn't think he would survive the anesthesia if she tried to do anything to his eye today. She said he would be a pretty little guy if he survives this ordeal.

We did give him his first set of shots today as well as worming him as there is no telling what the little guy has been exposed to. Ginger at the shelter had him in the quarantine room trying to keep his exposure to the nasties to a minimum.

Please pray that our little Christmas makes it and we can get him fixed up. This tiny fellow is gonna need all the help he can get. We named him Christmas Cheer because he needed a happy name as even as bad a shape as he is in, he seems to be a happy little guy. Did you see him giving me a kiss?

11 - 27- 09 - Christmas isn't doing too good. I am syringing him milk mush with nutrical and water and his meds to make sure he is getting what he needs to eat and he is eating it. To my eye he seems to be fading slowly but surely. He is not as perky, energetic and bright eyed as he was.

I have decided am not bathing or putting that dip on him today as I think it would kill him since it is some strong stuff and he is declining. ;( I am not gonna kill him treating him if I can help it. If he feels better tomorrow I will bathe and dip him. I wish he was big enough for ivermectin.

I thought you guys would want to know. I am very sad about this as I had hoped we would be his miracle and he would have a happy life. But I will keep working with him and hoping and praying and see what happens. Please add your prayers to mine that this little fellow makes it.

11 - 28- 09 - I wish I could give you good news today, but unfortunately I can't. OUr little Christmas Cheer passed away today. I am deeply saddened by his loss. It is one thing to lose an old one that you know is probably not gonna be with you long, but loosing puppies always upsets me to no end as they could have had a long life ahead of them filled with love.

Christmas Cheer did not have long with us, but I do hope that at the end he knew he was a precious little baby and was loved.

Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes for this little one to grow healthy and strong. Sometimes God just gives them to us in order for our hearts to grow or our eyes to be opened or other reasons only he knows. Bless you my little Christmas Cheer, I am sorry I couldn't save you.

As always, ABTR appreciates your continued support of our rescue efforts. Without your generosity and support, we could not have helped as many dogs as we have over the years. :) Thank you so very much. Wanda

We at American Boston Terrier Rescue have no ongoing sponsers, subsidies, grants or other steady supporter paying for the vetting care of the rescue dogs. All vet bills, dog food and anything else the dogs need are paid for from donations, adoption donations and my own pocketbook. Any Donations are always appreciated.

ABTR is very grateful for the generous show of support for this little baby boy. Your prayers are so appreciated as well as the donations for her vet care. All donations raised in excess of Christmas Cheer's expenses will be used for the care of the many other dogs in our rescue program such as the older dogs such as Andes, Gerties, Peeps, Old Fitzgerald, and Mr. Magoo who will probalby never be adopted, but still need our love, vet care, dog food and Prayers. Thank you again for your donations and support.
