The Legacy - Author Unknown

When humans die,
they make a will
To leave their homes
and all they have
to those they love.
I, too, would make a will
if I could write.
To some poor wistful, lonely stray
I leave my happy home,
My dish, my cosy bed,
my cushioned chair, my toy.
The well loved lap,
the gentle stroking hand,
the loving voice,
The place I made in someone's heart,
The love that at the last could help me to
a peaceful painless end
Held in loving arms.
If I should die, Oh do not say,
"No more a pet I'll have,
to grieve me by it's loss"
Seek out some lonely, unloved dog
And give my place to him.
This is the legacy I leave behind -
'tis all I have to give.

Do I Go Home Today - Sandi Thompson

My family brought me home cradled in their arms.
They cuddled me and smiled at me, and said I was full of charm.
They played with me and laughed with me, they showered me with toys.
I sure do love my family especially the girls and boys.
The children loved to feed me, they gave me special treats.
They even let me sleep with them all snuggled in the sheets.
I used to go for walks, often several times a day.
They even fought to hold my leash, I'm very proud to say.
These are things I'll never forget a cherished memory.
I now live in a shelter without my family.
They used to laugh and praise me when I played with that old shoe.
But I didn't know the difference between the old ones and the new.
The kids and I would grab a rag for hours we would tug.
So I thought I did the right thing when I chewed the bathroom rug.
They said that I was out of control, and would have to live outside.
This I did not understand although I tried and tried.
The walks stopped, one by one; they said they hadn't time.
I wish that I could change things, I wish I knew my crime.
My life became so lonely, in the back yard on a chain.
I barked and barked all day long to keep from going insane.
So they brought me to the shelter but were embarrassed to say why.
They said I caused an allergy, and then, kissed me goodbye.
If I'd only had some classes, as a little pup
I wouldn't have been so hard to handle when I was all grown up.
"You only have one day left," I heard the worker say.
Does this mean a second chance? Do I go home today?

Winner of this month February 2012: Cazadores Tequila

Hi there! This is our dog Bandit who we adopted from ABTR (his original name was Cazadores Tequila). We live in Boston, MA and it is absolutely frigid here, with highs in the teens! Bandit had just been out for a walk and was unimpressed with the cold, so came back to bed to warm up. Hope you enjoy the photo!

Always,

Whitney, Jon and Bandit

Previous winners:

From the month of April until January 2013, somehow this page hasn't been updated. I don't remember who won what month so I can update it. IF your dog was on a certain month, please let me know and send me a little bio with the pix and I will put it up here. I just now figured out how to do this. Thanks. Wanda

April 2012:Cheryle

Hello, my name is Cheryle and this is my 4-year old Boston named Chato but everyone likes to call him Scooby! We live in Denver Colorado. We had a blast in the mountains where he loves to explore and get wet! He loves to take pictures!
Winner: Cheryle Velasquez

March 2012: Tux

This is Tux in his St. Patrick's Day finery.

Tux was my very first Boston, and first ABTR adoptee in Oct. 2005. From that point, I have pulled, transported, fostered and adopted dogs for/from ABTR.

Tux is a real character - sometimes aloof and independent, but he loves to "bow & growl", and has periodic attacks of the "Boston 500" where he tears around crazily. He is now nearing 10 years old, but is not showing his age, other than some frosty brows. I don't think he has ever forgiven me from adding other dogs to "his" household!

My current crew includes Beau, Bijou, Bizou, Blatz, Tidbit and Tootsie as well as my "first born", Tux. I lost my Cadbury and Shiraz, but they brought me much joy in the short time we shared our lives.

Owner: Jim Gadient

January2012: Bruiser

This is Bruiser, He is a 1 year old Boston Terrier that we adopted in May of 2011. He was hit by a car in March 2011 and the owners took him to a pet emergency care center. The vet told them the cost to save his leg...the owners told him they couldn’t afford it so the vet told them he could amputate. The owners left stating “We don’t want a 3 legged dog,” The Humane League came and picked him up and he had surgery to remove the leg the next day. We have been adopting dogs for the past 20 years and this little guy has added so much joy to our home. One of our other dogs a 100 pound pit has races with him around the yard. As fast as this little guy can run, you would never know he’s only doing it with 3 legs He loves helping my son (who is homeschooled) do his work. They are usually on the sofa together, but thought this pic was a cute one.

Owner: Laura Ortiz

December 2011: Frannie Rose

A small family picture as I just had Frannie Rose for about 10 days. So Frannie is on my lap, then Libby and Turbeaux are swimming in the fiber fill snow.

Owber: Karen Hubert

November 2011: Mabel

A Little About Addie and Mabel: My boston terrier Mabel has been my absolute best friend through the best and worst of times. I've had two open-heart surgeries and she stayed by my bedside throughout my recoveries. Her big brown eyes, huge smile, tail twitches, and huge heart made me think of all the good things life has to offer. She wakes up every single morning ready to take on the day, although she is only twelve pounds, she shows that anything is possible.

A Little about the Picture: This picture was taken at Fiesta Island in San Diego, CA. It was Mabel's 8th birthday and she loves going to Fiesta Island. It was sunny out and she kept blinking, so I put some sunglasses on her. Surprisingly she left them on for a few minutes. I figured this was a picture perfect photo opportunity because she looked so stylish, and snapped the shot!

Owner: Holley Lorber from Fiesta Island, San Diego

October 2011: Lyla Boo

My name is Becca and this is my fur baby Lyla Boo. She is a very smart, loving, energetic 2 year old Boston. Lyla's all time favorite activity is fetching her tennis, she has unbelievable skills. She also loves to dress up!

Owner: Becca Mcpherson

No winner in September

August 2011's winner: Fenway

This is Fenway, she is a 3 y/o pure bred Boston that we rescued from the Friends of Homeless Animals. She is the best thing that's ever happened to us. She is like our child & does everything with us. Fenway's name comes from my husband's love of the Boston Redsox & of course that she's a Boston Terrier. Her favorite activites include spending time with her family, hiking on the trail, kayaking with mom & dad, playing with her babies, & of course burrowing under some blankets to sleep.

Owner: Meghan Sheppard Jacobs, PA-C of Annapolis, MD

July 2011's winner: Molly Brown, ABTR foster

Molly could hardly wait for me to finish filling up the wading pool. She was ready to cool off and as soon as I put the hose down, she jumped right in dipping her head underwater and leaving her back end up in the air. She would go under lapping up water and come up snorting. Then she did a little stiff legged dance and would do it all overagain.

June 2011's winner: Pixie

This is Pixie our newly adopted 13 week old Boston. She is a tiny girl at 2lbs as you can see by her comparison to her frog Beanie Baby Legs. She was born with Swimmers Syndrome, so her front paws don't work quite right, and she hops like a bunny rather than walking. Totally unaware of her disability, she runs and plays with the best of them. She has two sister Chihuahua's with a similar disability so it evens the playing field, lol.

Owner: Jen Marcotte, Little Elm, Tx.

May 2011's winner: Jack is a butterfly!

Jack is looking forward to Spring and chasing butterflies!

No winner in March and April

February 2011's winner: It's real love...

She is is my current foster Lily, she seems to be in love with my Boston Taz, Aren't they the cutest couple ever?

January 2011's winner: Salty Dog..

My amazing Salty Dog enthusiastically waiting for a ball to be tossed to him.

No winner in December

November 2010's winner: Watching for Santa..

Mookie and Bugs Bunny are watching for Santa...

Owner: Annette von Heimbruch ('Nette) from Eastern Shore, MD

October 2010's winner: Jack enjoying a sunset

I took this picture of Jack at Goose Rocks Beach in Maine in August of 2010. It was his first trip to the beach and he loved it!

Owner: Jack's Mom from New Hartford, NY

September 2010's winner: Paisley

This is my beautiful foster girl Paisley Martini. She is so willing to please, that she had no problem dressing up as a pumpkin and posing for the camera. This girl is a constant companion and is patiently waiting to make someone very happy.

Owner: Genevieve Morrison from Texas

August 2010 winner: Tucker - Ball Lovin'

Tucker LOVES his ball. I was working on our "wait" command and quickly took this picture of him with his favorite ball. He is 5 years old.

Owner: Kristi from Texas

July 2010: Joey

Joey, enjoying an early morning treat. He liked to get up early with me while the other dogs were still asleep. This morning I was deboning a Lamb Shank and offered the bone to Joey to clean off. Joey was with me from Mid-January until Mid-June. He had a unique and independent personality. When he was ready for pets he would come stand by my chair to accept pets. Sometimes he would let me hold him for a while. He enjoyed taking naps on a mat out on the patio even in the heat of the summer.

Owner: Texasaunty

June 2010: Elwood

Weeeeeeeee!!!!!

Elwood loves swinging on the kids rope swing. He doesn't like it when the kids use it as he wants to swing all the time. We have to take him in the house to get him to cool down as he doesn't know when to stop.

Owner: Mel from Anamosa, IA

May2010: Laddie

Laddie is an ABTR baby, adopted back in 2005. Enjoying life in Cedar Park Texas!

Owner: Darlene from Texas

April 2010: Jack Daniels - Don't I look cool?

This is our 5 year old BT Jack Daniels. Doesn't he look super cool in his hoodie? Jack loves to wear it when he goes out and about on the town. Living in upstate NY, he needs his jacket or his hoodie when he goes out in the cold weather. As you can see, Jack is quite the character!

Owner: Jack's Mom from New Hartford, NY

March 2010: Tootsie the bride

Tootsie is my darling 14-year old, deaf, arthritic matron with luxated patellas and the most winning personality. She never met a dog or person she didn't like, but she does huff and puff when a cat crosses her path. She was dubbed "Tootsie Roll" during the candy name era of ABTR, and it just fits her. Even at 14, she is full of beans, and still enjoys a game of tug-of-war and the Boston 500 races. Gotta love her...

Owner: Jim in Dallas, TX

February 2010: Ginger

January 2010: Charlie

This is my late Boston girl, Charlie. Her favorite bed was a large cardboard box lined with a foam base and blankets. She would bring all her toys in it AND any dog pillow that she may have. If you'll notice the green stuffing around the box. Yep, that's another pillow tiped to shreads! It was her favorite past time. Distroy pillows and kill all toys. She was a riot!

Owner: Tammy Phillips from Vernon, CT.

December 2009: Jimmy & Monty

And to all a good night...

Twas the night before woofmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that BT Claus soon would be there.

"I still consider myself new to the doggie parent world because I never had a dog as a child. Maybe one day I'll realize that having a BT for 8 years now no longer makes me a 'new' parent. Jimmy arrived at my home when he was 9 weeks old. He has been the apple of my eye ever since. About 4 years ago I decided it was time to expand our family and Monty arrived from ABTR in May 2005. He was close to 2 years old then. Now I wonder what life was like without my 2 knuckle-heads. "
Owner: Shiloh in Rhode Island, with Boston Terriers Jimmy & Monty.

November 2009: Miss Silly Milly Pilly Lilly

Lillian May Zattau shortly after we adopted her at age 8-1/2, learning to appreciate the kitchen.

Lilly has been a dear dear rescue for us, she came to us through NorCal Boxer Rescue. I think she is only the second 'official' rescue through them, and she came with hangups probably typical for a girlie who had been used as a breeder, spayed and rehomed, then came to us from a shelter in CA, at age 8-1/2...

At 11-1/2 now, she still bounces around like a silly thing and we love her dearly. She really doesn't look any grayer now than she did then, while we may be fooling ourselves, we look at pictures we took when she first came here and we just don't see more gray in her face.

We are delighted she is the Photo of the Month November for ABTR, I'm always there oogling bostons as they are so cute and boxerlike...

Owner: Donna in WestOR, with Guy and the box heads, Zito, Lilly, and Jolie B

October 2009: Blatz

Biker Blatz at LifeBark

Biker Blatz looking sharp in his Jeep stroller.

I got a call from Wanda that there was yet another Boston in the Fort Worth shelter, a heartworm positive case, so off I went to pick him up. When I saw this guy out of the cage, I realized he was either a French Bulldog or 1/2 Boston and 1/2 Frenchie, even though his facial features are very Boston. He absolutely captivated me, and so I determined then and there that I would foster him through his vet work and heartworm treatment. He had just been neutered the day before, so he was already recuperating from that indignity!

His bloodwork revealed a few issues and he has to be on hypertension meds for the rest of his life, and due to his enlarged heart (darn heartworms had done some damage during their infestation), he must remain on prescription dog food with quite a few supplements as well. I knew from the moment I first spied him that he was probably going to become my fifth ABTR adoptee, but for right now he is technically just a foster... HA!
