American Boston Terrier Rescue Mission Statement

We are an all-volunteer; non-profit group dedicated to the health and well being of all Boston Terriers. Our mission and main objective is to vet and responsibly re-home unwanted animals with a thorough pre-screening adoption program that includes checking vet and personal references as well as a home visit. Secondary objectives include pet education and decreasing the number of purebred animals being born with our policy of all dogs are spayed/neutered before adoption and educating our adopters on the importance of spay/neuter. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that every Boston Terrier has the chance to live the life they deserve.

We mainly rescue Purebred Boston Terriers, but do accept Boston Terrier mixes plus any purebred dogs and cats from animal control and owner surrenders when space is available. At this time we do not have a shelter so all our animals are in foster care. All adoption fees and donated money is applied towards the costs of vetting, caring for and maintaining the animals and our rescue efforts. There is no salary to pay, as we are all volunteers. We test all our animals for heartworm, lyme and erlichia. We immunize (Rabies, Bordatella, DA2LPPC) and sterilize all the animals. We stress keeping dogs indoors and not chained up. We have made it mandatory to spay/neuter ALL animals prior to adoption. Our animals are on FRONTLINE flea control to make certain as possible they go to their new home flea free. They are also given monthly heartworm preventive. All animals are dewormed. We try to help those who will be euthanized first because it is not their fault they end up on death row. We do accept ALL Boston Terriers no matter how old or what shape they are in. All Bostons deserve a loving home. However, we do not accept human aggressive dogs. We drive and pick up dogs all over North, East and West Texas, Southern Oklahoma, Northern Louisiana and Arkansas.

Secondarily we try to educate pet owners to deal with any problems that may arise in conjunction with being a pet owner. We do have an email list for our adopters to get information as well as participating in a monthly Public Service Announcement advertisement in the Dallas Morning News with the occasional ad in the Fort Worth Telegram, as money is available. Our immediate future goal is to have a Van to transport animals from Animal Control or wherever they need to be picked up if owner surrendered to the vet and to their new homes.

American Boston Terrier Rescue realizes the importance of homes for elderly and special needs Bostons who are not adoptable to the average pet home. We are assessing the development of a program to provide long term care for elderly Bostons whose owners have passed away and for special needs Bostons who need more care than the average pet owner is able to provide. At this time, it is still in the discussion stages only.
